Please check the Direct X and the 3DS Max Wikipedia entries, and then come back to us when you actually understand what you are talking about.
Comparing the Direct X framework and 3DS Max is like trying to compare Premium Grade Gouda with the entire industry that manufactures it.
They are two completely different animals.

Besides, even if you are referring to .x models, the port made between 3DS Max and the resourcer makes using anything else obsolete unless your importing them into 3DS Max to be exported to the resourcer.
